Mission and Vision
Mission Statement:
As persons growing in Christian Discipleship,
we encourage all people to grow in their relationship with God and one another
so that all may experience the fullness of Christian life.
Vision Statement:
Bishop Janes UMC will continue to grow spiritually and physically.
We will intentionally reach out to others while we improve our service to our own membership.
We will adopt unifying themes to integrate all aspects of church life.
We will create an environment that inspires us to deepen our relationship with God and each other
through participation in: Worship, Fellowship, Education, Service and Outreach.
We believe that worship is a joyful,
celebration of our own personal and community relationship in Jesus Christ.
Accomplishments
- Refurbishing of the Sanctuary
- Lenten prayer services, Fellowship Village services
- (Youth Praise Band & Choir), Celebration Sundays
- Choirs: chancel, bells, youth bells, children's choirs.
- Special concerts, video screens for Hymn-singing, displaying pictures, new organ on the horizon, enhanced audio options.
Dreams for 2007 and Beyond
- Offer Holy Communion every Sunday and provide a more meditative atmosphere at the 10:30 AM service
- Become acquainted with our new organ and how it will enhance Sunday morning worship
- Continue to expand the use of audio/visual tecnology in worship
We believe that fellowship
is fundamental to the experience of God and each other.
Fellowship enriches the life of the church, as we grow to know each other,
exchange ideas, meet the everyday needs of our people and achieve a sense of belonging.
Accomplishments
- SPLAT (middle school youth), Senior High Sunday Brunches
- Men's Breakfast Group, Men's (Tower Club) Ministry
- United Methodist Women circles
- Seasonal celebrations such as Shamrock Shake, Pumpkin Carving and Advent Festival
Dreams for 2007 and Beyond
- Put into place a Family Ministry Team that would provide quarterly Fellowship Gatherings for the congregation
- Faith-based Fellowship Experiences like Milk & Honey Cooking School (this is educational, too)
We believe that Christian Education
creates a spiritual foundation on which a balanced life and deeper relationship with Christ
can be obtained and provides a context for understanding as relating contemporary issues.
Accomplishments
- Improved space for Christian Education (Dutcher Center)
- Adult Education (Sunday morning options, short-term Disciple Bible Study, Prayer Study)
- Rotation, Middle School Confirmation, Vacation Bible School
- Book Discussion Group, Parenting Class
- Holy Communion Class
Dreams for 2007 and Beyond
- Utilize the preaching component in sunday morning worship as a tool for education, especially in the area of Biblical
knowledge, stewardship, mission awareness
- Create a Congregational Culture "where ministry with young people is viewed a part of our communal ministry"
- Create a week-day spiritual program for children (K-5th grade) and families, to dovetail with Middle
School Wednesday programs
We believe that service, as set forth
in the example of Jesus Christ, is essential to living our faith.

- Create more opportunities for "hands-on" mission trips
We believe that outreach is a necessary expression
of our Christian faith.

- Provide Support Groups for families
- Increase our membership
- Musical Theater Camp (religious-themed musicals)
- Create a Driving Team to provide people rides to medical appointments
One more dream - increasing our financial support to continue the
momemtum of our ministries and dreams.
