HEIFER PROJECT IS SPONSORED AS A SPECIAL OUTREACH OF OUR SUNDAY SCHOOL
PURPOSE: In developing countries around the world there is a great need for food to feed large populations. In many cases there are not adequate herds of animals such as cows to provide milk, or meat. Heifer project enlists organizations such as the Bishop Janes Sunday school to raise money to purchase a cow to send overseas. When the money is collected, a pregnant cow is sent direct to the village or individuals that need it. Thus each animal multiplies and the amount of food available increases. Many kinds of animals are included in this unique mission effort. Heifer Project is a way in which a tangible result to outreach can be realized.

THE EDUCATION COMMISSION SPONSORS HALLOWEEN COLLECTION OF FUNDS FOR UNICEF, THE SENIOR MYF SPONSORS A BATTLE OF THE BANDS TO BENEFIT UNICEF
PURPOSE: UNICEF emergency assistance includes the provision of medical supplies and equipment, essential drugs including vaccine, oral re-hydration salts, drinking water, shelter materials, clothing, blankets, soap, and cooking utensils, as well as seeds and tools. UNICEF fights malnutrition on many-fronts. One example is the program to distribute vitamin A capsules that give children the entire vitamin A they-need for 6 months. Vitamin A deficiency causes irreversible blindness and makes children much more susceptible to disease. UNICEF also fights to eliminate the root causes of malnutrition by educating mothers and fathers on how best to grow nutritious food for their families. UNICEF also provides seeds and tools and shows families how to protect their food from vermin and insects. In addition, UNICEF shows mothers how to use growth monitoring charts so they can spot and correct nutrition problems before permanent damage is caused.
